Watergrove
A calm wintery morning at Watergrove
When I first came across Watergrove I had with me a small digital camera, a Nikon Coolpix 775 which belonged to my eldest daughter, and the photograph above was one of the first I ever took of the reservoir. I have never again seen the water as calm as it was on that first visit, and I realize that I was probably very lucky indeed.
I returned again and again exploring various avenues, watching and recording the seasons’ change. The summer of that year was very dry and the water level sank so low that Ramsden Road was visible from the Sailing Club to the wall of the reservoir. It also snowed on Christmas Day that year and I took the opportunity to walk a quickish circuit of Watergrove with the sun low in the sky.
Boxing Day dawned bright and sunny, and it was also the 30th anniversary of the Brown Wardle Walk. To mark the occasion the scouts had set up a tent on the summit of Brown Wardle and were serving mulled wine to all who reached the summit.
Watergrove is a wonderful resource unspoilt by commercialism, and there’s always a reason to return.
